StepUP Loan

A safe low interest loan between $800 and up to $3,000.

For personal, domestic or household purposes.

The loans are for items such as fridges, washing machines, cars, computers, furniture, medical expenses and house repairs.

A community worker helps you fill out the paperwork to get the loan that is then assessed by the National Australia Bank.

Loan terms and repayments are set at what you can afford.

• Interest is charged at a fixed low rate.

• The loans can be repaid over three years.

• Loans can be held in joint names.

• No fees apply.

• Loans are not for cash, holidays, bills or debt consolidation.

A credit check is required.

Please note, if the applicant already has more than one bank loan, they may not qualify. StepUP is designed for people who cannot access bank credit.

Am I eligible?

StepUP Loans are specifically for:

– Individuals or families holding a current Centrelink Health Care Card or Pension Card or Family tax benefit Part A

– Individuals or families who have lived at their current address for more than three months.

About StepUP

StepUP is a community initiative between Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service and National Australia Bank which aims to provide a safe credit alternative.

The loans are supplied on a not for profit basis and are part of National Australia Bank’s commitment to ensuring that all Australians have access to fair banking services.

NILS®

Provides individuals & families on low incomes the opportunity to apply for an interest-free loan

NILS® loans are available for items that will improve the health and wellbeing of you or your family such as whitegoods, computers, furniture, education expenses, health aids or essential repairs.

Loans are available for up to $1200 - with a cheque drawn to the supplier. There are no fees, interest or charges.

NILS® loans DO NOT cover recurring expenses such as: bond or rent money, rent arrears, living expenses such food or utility bills, cash advances, cheques to a third party for private sale, or debt repayment and consolidation.

NILS® loans are specifically for:

Individuals or families on a low income unable to qualify for other affordable finance or credit, including people receiving Centrelink benefits, hold a current Centrelink Health Care Card or Pension Card;

Families of Rosemount clients and extended family networks;

Residents of Canterbury, Bankstown, Leichhardt or Marrickville local government areas.

No-Interest Loans For Essential Household Items/Services

Interest charged at a fixed low rate

Repayments available over a 3 year period

Loans are available for items such as second-hand cars, car repairs, household items, computers, medical expenses, airfares for refugee family reunion, and vocational education.

More than one item at a time is allowed.

A community worker helps you complete the application that is then assessed by the National Australia Bank.

Loans are not for: cash, holidays, bills or debt consolidation, and a credit check is required.

StepUp loans are specifically for:

Individuals or families holding a current Centrelink Health Care Card or Pension Card or Family Tax Benefit Part A; and

Who have lived at their current address for more than 3 months.

All areas are eligible, as long as you can come to our office for an interview.
