At the AGM this year (Nov 23rd 2011) Kogarah Community Services was lucky enough to have Dr Peter Gonski present a talk on Dementia and Care in the Community. Associate Professor Peter Gonski is a specialist geriatrician, Director of the Southcare Division of Aged and Extended Care, Clinical Supervisor at the St George Clinical School and conjoint Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of NSW. The presentation discussed many of the causes, prevalance and occurence of Dementia amongst our aging population and looked at how carers, alongside Community Services can produce the best outcomes for people with this disability.
KCS has had an exciting, challenging and rewarding year. Without a doubt, one of the highlights of the year was the public acknowledgement of our fabulous work when we were awarded the St George Leader Small Business Awards in the category of “Best Local Community Service”. Being publically acknowledged and recognised for being the best at what we do was wonderfully inspiring for all staff, volunteers and students who are involved with the variety of services we deliver to the local community.
